Why are Formula Green™ products different/better than our competitors?
The advanced technology behind all Amiran BioChemicals products reflects our belief that today's solutions can do more than be marginally acceptable—they can also have a positive environmental impact and be highly effective. This concept is the basis for our unique range of chemical formulations for both home and industry.
Amiran BioChemicals cleaning compounds use new, proprietary encapsulation technology for both general purpose and emulsion degreasing applications as well as odor control. The cleaners are particularly effective on oils, grease, and metals; are safe to handle; rapidly biodegradable; and produce no noxious fumes or gases. These products are replacements for a wide variety of halogenated hydrocarbon, chloroflurocarbon, acidic, and alkaline based cleaners which are being phased out under increasingly stringent government regulations.
What is encapsulation and why is it important?
Unlike certain other techniques (e.g. low/high pH products, detergents, or microbial cultures), Amiran BioChemicals products work by augmenting strong cleaning power with the ability to encapsulate and microfractionalize contaminates. This means that our products work at a molecular level to break apart, encapsulate, and disaggregate contaminates such as dirt, oil, grease, and odor causing organic compounds such that they lose and affinity to adhere to one another or to hard surfaces. Once the offending contaminates have been encapsulated they are easily rinsed clean and more readily biodegraded within the environment.
Are Formula Green™ products biodegradable?
Yes. Formula Green™ products are readily broken down and decomposed by naturally occurring microorganisms in the environment.
Do Formula Green™ products contain CFCs?
No. Formula Green™ products contain no chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), halons or other ozone depleting chemicals.
What are VOCs and do Formula Green™ products contain them?
VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compound. These are chemicals that will evaporate at low temperatures and, by a chemical reaction, will cause atmospheric oxygen to be converted into potentially harmful emissions. The VOC content for all Formula Green™ products is typically none to low and all Formula Green™ products fall within state and federal VOC regulations.
What is pH and how does it effect the performance of a cleaner?
pH is a figure for expressing the acidity or alkalinity of a solution on a logarithmic scale of 0 to 14 in which 7 is neutral, lower values are more acid, and higher values more alkaline. Each scale unit equals a power of 10. Consequently, a product that has a rating of 12 is 100,000 times more alkaline/caustic than one with a rating of 7.
Formula Green™ products typically have a relatively neutral pH of between 6.5 and 8.5. This puts us squarely in the neutral range on the pH scale and is a significant difference as compared to other household and industrial cleaners which tend to use relatively lower (acidic) or higher (alkaline) pH levels to accomplish cleaning. This is an important factor to consider when choosing a cleaner as lower and higher pH cleaners are more likely to be environmentally hazardous or present serious health hazards. Further, lower and higher pH products can actually damage the surfaces they are intended to clean. Corrosive reactions with metal surfaces, caulking, and protective finishes are common side effects of these types of products.
Are Formula Green™ products non-toxic?
Formula Green™ products are classified as a whole for toxicity rating in accordance with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. While Formula Green™ products are typically defined as being non-toxic, in reality, toxicity is relative. Everything is toxic in large enough quantities. If a person were to consume enough water it could cause death.
Is Formula Green™ made in the USA?
Yes. Amiran BioChemicals, LLC and our sister company BioGenesis Enterprises, Inc. have been manufacturing cleaning products in the USA for over 25 years.  All of our products are manufactured in our Oak Creek, WI production facility and packaged locally in the Milwaukee, WI area. Further, we source and purchase all of our ingredients and packaging from US based distribution companies most of whom are local to the Illinois and Wisconsin area.
What is the shelf life for Formula Green™ products?
The typical shelf life for Formula Green™ products is indefinite when stored in a tightly closed container at ambient temperature (approx. 68̊ F)
Is Formula Green™ safe to use around pets?
Yes. Formula Green™ is safe for use around pets. That said, we do recommend using common sense when using in pet areas. Pets should be removed from the immediate cleaning area, and never leave puddles or containers of cleaning solution where pets might drink or come into direction contact with the concentrated cleaners.
Does Formula Green™ test on animals?
No. If we have need to verify the health and safety features of a product, we choose any non-animal test methods available to us.
My Formula Green™ product appears to have separated?  Is it still good?
Occasionally, Formula Green™ products may separate due to exposure to extreme temperatures (below 32̊ F or above 125̊ F). In general the products can still be used and all that is needed to restore the product is a simple shake or stir to re-mix the components that have separated.
How should I dispose of unused Formula Green™ products?
Typically, most Federal, State, and Local disposal regulations require that only used product can go into any sanitary sewer system. As such, pouring unused Formula Green™ products down the drain may not be suitable for sewage disposal. Check with your local POTW (Publicly Owned Treatment Works) before disposing effluent into sanitary sewer drains. Many local municipalities offer drop-off locations where unused products such as household cleaners may be disposed of free of charge. Do not dispose of anything other than water down a storm drain or into an open waterway.
What does the Design for Environment label mean and do any Formula Green™ products have it?
When consumers see the Design for the Environment (DfE) label on a product, they can be confident that the ingredients have been through a rigorous EPA review. The label means that EPA scientists have evaluated every ingredient in the product to ensure it meets DfE's stringent criteria. When people use Design for the Environment-labeled products they are protecting their families and the environment by making safer chemical choices.
Formula Green™ currently offers our Cleanovations™ All-Purpose Degreaser under the EPA DfE label. This means that not only has this product undergone thorough independent scientific scrutiny for safe chemistry but also for performance and sustainable packaging choices.
What is the EPA National Contingency Plan? Are any Formula Green™ products listed?
The National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan, more commonly called the National Contingency Plan or NCP, is the federal government's plan for responding to both oil spills and hazardous substance releases. Formula Green™ Industrial Degreaser (also known as BG-Clean™ 401) is on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's NCP Product Schedule.
Do any Formula Green™ products have USDA approval?
In 1997 the USDA stopped their non-food compound approval process and instilled the HACCP letter of guarantee program. No Formula Green™ product currently have a post-1997 approval. Prior to 1997 Formula Green™ formulations for a Kitchen Degreaser and Concrete Cleaner were approved.
